One hunter. One missed opportunity. One idea that changed everything.My name is Zach Longfellow, and I was born and raised in Southern Maryland. From an early age, I developed a passion for the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and simply being outside weren’t just hobbies to me—they became a way of life.Like many kids, my dad introduced me to hunting at a young age. I harvested my first buck when I was just six years old, and from that moment on, I was hooked.I’ve always loved the chase of the whitetail. The scouting. The strategy. Patterning a deer. Sitting in the woods before daylight and waiting for that one opportunity.Over the years, my career as a firefighter/paramedic took me throughout Maryland, including areas around Washington, D.C. While working shifts, I’d often see incredible whitetails while driving around the area. Sometimes, when I’d spot a trophy buck, I’d go door-to-door after my shift looking for landowners willing to give me permission to hunt.Eventually, I was fortunate enough to find a few places to hunt.But that brought a whole new challenge.

LEARNING TO HUNT URBAN WHITETAILS

I grew up hunting in more traditional country settings—big woods, fields, and farmland.Urban deer hunting was completely different.There were new challenges, new strategies, and a completely different way of approaching the hunt.One of the biggest challenges was simply getting your gear and feed into the woods.In many of these urban hunting situations, you can’t simply jump on a UTV and drive to your hunting spot. You have to walk.And if you’re carrying 50-pound bags of corn through the woods, you quickly realize how difficult—and noisy—it can be.You try to be quiet.You try to be careful.You try not to disturb the area.But carrying heavy, awkward feed bags through the woods creates noise, takes time, and creates more disturbance than you want.Then there’s the logistics.Carry one bag in.Walk back out.Go get another.Carry your hunting pack.Carry your gear.By the time you’re finished, you’ve spent a tremendous amount of time and energy just getting your feed where it needs to go.And then came the hunt that changed everything.

THE DEER THAT GOT AWAY

About two years ago, I was chasing the biggest whitetail I had ever seen on the hoof in Maryland.We had him patterned.It was late season, and we knew that when fresh feed was put out, he would often show up within one to two hours.I had an opportunity.One morning, around 5:15 a.m., I headed into the woods to put out fresh corn. My plan was simple: get the feed down, get settled in, and hopefully have an opportunity at first light.I carried the bags in and dropped the corn.But there was one problem.That buck was already there.He was bedded roughly 80 yards away, just over a small knoll.As I made my way through the area, I spooked him.I watched that giant whitetail disappear over the hill in the moonlight.And I never saw him again.I couldn’t stop thinking about it.There had to be a better way.

THE IDEA

That experience started the idea behind BuckDrop.I began thinking about a completely different way to transport feed into the woods.What if I could carry a large amount of corn without having to drag bulky bags through the woods?What if I could control exactly where the corn was dumped?What if I could control when it was dumped and how much came out?And what if I could do all of that without having to make multiple trips back to the truck?That was the beginning of BuckDrop.

TWO YEARS. THREE PROTOTYPES. ONE PRODUCT.

What started as an idea turned into two years of designing, testing, changing, and building prototypes.We went through three different bag prototypes before finally landing on the BuckDrop design we have today.The goal was simple: Make it easier for hunters to get their feed where they need it without the unnecessary hassle.Today, BuckDrop allows you to load your feed at the truck, throw the bag on your back, walk to your destination, and control exactly where and when your feed is dispersed.
